🌟 Introducing Our Logo: A Symbol of Healing and Hope 🌟

We are proud to share the official logo for Isle Ride to Recover, representing our mission to rescue horses and rehabilitate riders. At the heart of the design is a bright yellow awareness ribbon.

You may also see our para horses wearing a yellow ribbon in their tails in collecting rings—just as stallions traditionally wear white. This serves as a gentle, respectful signal to other riders that the horse and rider may need a little more space, patience, or awareness, as part of a commitment to inclusivity and safety in equestrian sport.
Nestled within the ribbon is a powerful image of a rider and horse gently connecting, highlighting the deep bond and mutual trust that define our work.
The bold colours and clean lines make our message unmistakable: recovery, resilience, and the transformative power of the human-horse relationship.
This logo is more than just a design—it stands for resilience, recovery, and the incredible partnership between humans and horses.

Welcome to Isle Ride to Recover CIC

Rebuilding Trust, Reclaiming Strength

Two Paths, One Journey: Healing Together

We are a community interest company based on the Isle of Axholme, dedicated to transforming lives through the unique and powerful bond between horse and human. Our mission is twofold:

• To support riders of all ages with both visible and hidden disabilities, offering therapeutic and adaptive equestrian experiences that build confidence, strength, and freedom.
• To rescue and rehabilitate horses and ponies who have suffered neglect, abuse, or abandonment, giving them the care, compassion, and purpose they deserve.

Whether you’re a nervous beginner, a seasoned rider navigating new challenges, or someone seeking peace and purpose, our stables offer a safe, welcoming space where growth happens — slowly, kindly, , and with four hooves by your side.
Together, we ride toward recovery.

Isle Ride to Recover CIC was founded by Sarah Cumberland, a UKCC Level 3 Showjumping Coach with a deep passion for both competitive sport and inclusive, healing horsemanship. Selected by British Showjumping to represent Great Britain, I’ve had the privilege of competing internationally in both para and able-bodied disciplines, with wins across prestigious arenas in Munich, Bonheiden (Belgium), La Baule (France), and throughout the United Kingdom. I studied at Caythorpe University, earning a Diploma in Equine Studies, and have since devoted my life to the welfare, training, and rehabilitation  of horses.

Alongside my competitive career, I’ve also worked as an external trainer for Bransby Horses, where I’ve had the privilege of breaking in and rehabilitating many of their rescue horses and ponies, preparing them for new beginnings in loving foster homes. My journey—marked by resilience, trust in the horse, and the belief that riding is for everyone—fuels the mission behind Isle Ride to Recover. Here, I use my experience not just to coach, but to empower riders of all abilities and restore the lives of horses who, like many of us, just need another chance.

I’m joined in this mission by my husband John and supported every step of the way by my daughter, Elle, who has groomed internationally and plays a hands-on role in the daily care and rehabilitation of our horses. Our other company, Avalon Mill, is named in honor of the remarkable horse I competed with—a partner who inspired not only my career, but this entire vision

Testimonial:

"Hi Sarah
Where do I start, thank you so much for what you and Avalon Mill have done for Jade, a girl who didn’t speak to anyone there for 2 weekends, to a woman who loves to be there, doesn't shut up when there.
Always wants to be there, feels safe, even when falling.
Jedda, a horse that would be good for her to do hacks and riding she's 30, but doesn't mind.
She's confident, helps others now who are like her and those that are not, shame not a horse big enough and gentle enough for her she would excel, she keeps saying win lottery lol, I’m hoping you are around for at least another 30 yrs as she will still be coming then, if it was upto her she would live above stables from Friday teatime till Sunday teatime.
Absolutely been an amazing ride, thank you Sarah, to you, John and family, you're like her second family, caring and respecting her boundaries even though she doesn't get them.
Once again wish I could drive; she would be there all the time. She has just come on in leaps and bounds."
